trailing, 2010
just started this one today. Ive had this picture around for a long time, took it in the fall on a brilliant stormy evening. All of these relate to the Chicago Artist Archive. I’m looking at images of people floating together, and thinking about people gathered under a big parachute. remember that feeling of pulling it over your head and holding it to the ground while it lofted over you and your class? the best, safest, temporary feeling.
dropping, 2010.
there are two of these, second one still in the works. stormy midwest skies are great operatic contexts for these figures. I used open source sculpture by: Max Grueter.
FIRE_ESCAPE_TWIRL, (in progress)
During open crit at the hyde park art center, the critics suggested pushing away from the literal single point perspective of my long sky canyon drawings. This generated many ideas, including one from our architect Michael Wilkinson who suggested the fire escape bend over and touch the ground. This and the one above are gestures in that direction.
Eviction, 2010.
The artists at magnuson park are scheduled to be evicted May 1, 2010. There is a last push to keep artists on the campus. I am with them all the way.
